Son of Barry Richards dies

May 20, 2009

Barry Richards, former South African opener and one of the newest inductees into the ICC Hall of Fame, announced that his eldest son, Mark Richards, committed suicide.

The tragedy occurred at a rehabilitation centre where Mark, who was in his 20s, was admitted for a drug problem. Said Richards who now resides in Perth, Australia, “It’s a difficult time to talk about it now. We are shattered.”

Richards, who is now 63 years old, enjoyed a very successful cricketing career scoring an impressive 28,358 runs for an average of 54.74. Nicknamed the ‘Big Bird’, he was very tall, vicious at the bat, and fast. He played with Natal from 1964 to 1983 and also for Hampshire and Western Australia.

The entire Team here at Amuse.co.za extend our deepest condolences to the Richards family and their friends and hope that they find the strength and courage to overcome this terrible tragedy.

Super 14 is heating up

May 17, 2009

RUGBY SUPER 14

The Chiefs won the game against the Brumbies in Hamilton earlier today with a mere 3 poits: 10/7 for a final score, but no walk in the park for the Chiefs. The Brumbies put it all in and gave us a very good performance! In the end, it was the Chiefs with a penalty to secure their win. This gives them 45 points to top the log, remembering that all other teams must still play one more game. Will they stay on top, or end 2nd on the log? It does not matter for the Chiefs as they are assured of a home semi final! This is so tense with the last round of the Super 14.

The Blue Bulls are facing the Sharks tomorrow in Durban, with everything riding on the result for a home semi final for the Bulls. The Sharks will give it their all to be in the top 4 to play in a semi final. If they finish 4th, they would have to tour either to Pretoria or overseas. The tension is electrifying in Gauteng as everybody wants the two SA teams to be in the top 4, but for the Bulls, they want a home semi and that means “WIN TOMORROWS GAME”!!!

Super rugby is a tough and very competitive sport, and there is no mercy for the teams that do not perform in Super Rugby. We have seen the Cheetas and Lions fighting back the past 3 weeks with a vengeance, but one thing is certain: Too little, too late! It is still possible for us to witness the log been upset by a team or two, depending on this weekends results. The Sharks and Crusaders want to play next week in the semi final, so we can expect super performances from them. We are on the edge of our seats this weekend!

Here is the update on the S14 Log followed by games to be played this weekend!

Biggest Online Casino Progressive Jackpot:

May 14, 2009

Mega Moolah slots had a progressive jackpot winner this past week for €6.3 million at River Belle Online Casino! It is the largest progressive jackpot won in the history of online casinos. Last year’s progressive jackpot was €5.5 million.

The winner, Georgios M is a 36 year old father and husband, and a business owner from Greek decent.  He said in his own words that he could not believe it when his computer announced the enormous winnings. The casino support line had to confirm his winnings and calm him down, before he believed it! And that from a €5 spin? His winnings will be paid in cash by Microgaming Progressive Network.

The chairman of River Belle’s parent Belle Rock Entertainment, Tim Johnson had this to say: “We at Belle Rock Entertainment take the utmost pleasure in seeing our players win life-changing jackpots. It is an amazing accomplishment that for a single bet of €5 a valued long time River Belle player walked away with the largest online jackpot ever won. Well done and enjoy your winnings Georgios.”

So, don’t think it can never happen to you. Georgios also thought that that online jackpot’s is to lure one in to play, and that few ever win. But as we can see, it pays to play at online casinos! Just make sure you play at licensed accredited casinos!

Delhi Daredevils won by 7 wickets

May 11, 2009

The Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to field. This was a wise choice by the Daredevils whose precise bowling caused wicket after wicket to fall for the Kolkata Knight Riders. The first wicket fell in form of McCullum when the team score was just 7. It was evident practically from the onset who would be the victor in the match. With the exception of a small upset by Saurav Ganguly who scored 44 runs and, then later, Ajit Agarkar who scored 39 runs pushing the Knight Riders to 123/8 in 20 overs, Kolkata never recovered.

Brendon McCullum, though hitting one over square leg for a 6, was given LBW to Nehra who angled one across to him. Brad Hodge soon after chased a wide ball that he edged to AB de Villiers at slip. Morne van Wyk pulled Nannes straight to Rajat Bhatia at short square leg in the next over.

The Delhi Daredevils batsmen were fearless, with Gambhir and Dave Warner putting on 53 for the first wicket before the skipper scooped a wide delivery from Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques to Hodge at backward point. A strategic timeout was made just when Ishant Sharma dismissed Warner and then three balls later Tillakaratne Dilshan thanks to a well judged catch by Henriques on the deep backward square leg boundary. The Daredevils coasted to victory with 17 balls to spare. De Villiers made 40 runs (not out) and hit five 4s. Between him and Karthik, they shared a partnership of 56 runs taking the Daredevils to 125/3.

McCullum conceded their loss as due to inconsistency. “We have just been too inconsistent, if we bowl well, we do not bat well or field well, we just have not got all three facets of the game going well at the same time, but we will keep fighting and hopefully we will get that win soon.”

Amit Mishra bowled a good spell for the Delhi Daredevils earning him the Man of the Match title.

Some other game highlights include:

  • Kolkata Knight Riders: 50 runs in 8.5 overs (57 balls), Extras 4
  • Drinks: Kolkata Knight Riders - 52/5 in 10.0 overs (SC Ganguly 27, MC Henriques 2)

  • Delhi Daredevils: 50 runs in 6.2 overs (40 balls), Extras 7
  • 1st Wicket: 50 runs in 40 balls (G Gambhir 18, DA Warner 26, Ex 7)
  • Drinks: Delhi Daredevils - 72/3 in 10.0 overs (AB de Villiers 7, KD Karthik 1)
  • Delhi Daredevils: 100 runs in 14.6 overs (94 balls), Extras 12
  • 4th Wicket: 50 runs in 47 balls (AB de Villiers 30, KD Karthik 17, Ex 3)

15-man Standard Bank Pro20 Squad Announced

May 4, 2009

Cricket South Africa (CSA) today announced their final 15-man Standard Bank Pro20 squad for the ICC World T20, which will be played in England in June. Included in the squad are the Players who won the two Standard Bank Pro20 Internationals against Australia earlier this year including Graeme Smith (Nashua Cape Cobras, capt), Johan Botha (Chevrolet Warriors, vice-capt), Yusuf Abdulla (Nashua Dolphins), Mark Boucher (Chevrolet Warriors), AB de Villiers (Nashua Titans), JP Duminy (Nashua Cape Cobras), Herschelle Gibbs (Nashua Cape Cobras), Jacques Kallis (Chevrolet Warriors), Albie Morkel (Nashua Titans), Morne Morkel (Nashua Titans), Justin Ontong (Nashua Cape Cobras), Wayne Parnell (Chevrolet Warriors), Robbie Peterson (Nashua Cape Cobras), Dale Steyn (Nashua Titans), Roelof van der Merwe (Nashua Titans).

The squad will gather for a training camp at the end of the month. In the meantime, Mike Procter expressed his pleasure at the fact that the opportunity has now come for the Proteas to possibly win a major trophy in a limited overs match. He noted that the Players are in good physical health and condition and that many “quality all-rounders” are at their disposal.

Said Mickey Arthur, national coach, “I am delighted with the squad the selectors have given me…It is a team with plenty of options – great depth to the batting and plenty of bowling options. It is also an outstanding fielding unit.” It will be interesting to see how this pans out in June.

Kings XI Punjab have done it again

May 4, 2009

In Sunday’s match between the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Kings XI Punjab came out on top by six wickets. They needed only 7 runs to win off the final over. Scores were tied on the last ball. The anticipation was so thick in the air you could cut it with a knife. Irfan Pathan sliced teh ball giving his team the all-important single and a 4th victory in 7 matches.

The Kings XI Pujnab moved up to second spot in the DLF IPL standings for this season, making them 1 of 3 teams level on 8 points. Many conclude that it was poor fielding by Kolkata, who dropped 4 catches, that edged the Kings past them. On the other hand Sunny Sohal (25 off 17 balls, three sixes) and Simon Katich (34 off 28 balls, three fours and a six) also gave them the push they needed.

The Man of the Match went to Jayawardene (52 not out off 41 balls). Credit must go to Brad Hodge who delivered a commendable performance - undefeated 70 to rise to third in the race for the Orange Cap for leading run-scorers in Season 2009 with a total of 230 runs. Hodge follows 2 players from the Chennai Super Kings – left hand opening batsmen Mathew Hayden who with 246 runs leads the Orange Cap standings, who is closely followed by his team-mate Suresh Raina with 232 runs. Hodge, whose 70 came off 43 balls, hit 10 fours and a six. With Sourav Ganguly (22 off 17 balls) and Morne van Wyk (18 off 12), he helped add 75 runs in the final six overs of the Kolkata Knight Riders innings.

Story from a local jackpot winner

May 4, 2009

Meet Ms X, a 39 year old lady from South Africa. She won the jackpot at a casino some 10 years ago. Still a mufti-millionaire and a role model in her own right, she inspires many people to enjoy this entertainment and at the same time, be responsible.  Ms X is the mother of an 8 year old boy and is single, after her long relationship with the boy’s father failed.

Ms X did gambling at casinos just for fun as in those days; the casinos were not as “open” as today. Very much an Elite market and exclusive, Ms X had contacts to the now known Monte Casino in Fourways, Johannesburg.  As usual, Ms X joined friends and played their normal games on slots. Very excited, as you win some money occasionally, she took her chance at a progressive jackpot slots. Not suspecting anything, she put her card in, used the max bet options, and spun the wheel a few times. Her favorite slot machines are the treasures under  the sea where you play 20lines at maximum lines and betting in 10 sent domination’s.

Suddenly, she heard an overpowering alarm and saw her slots machine flash that she won the jackpot! A total of R4.2million! It only hit her when most of the people in the slots hall clapped and the officials congratulated her. Given a bottle of champagne to open, with all her friends around her, the casino whisked her off to a restaurant for a free meal with all her friend to celebrate! She was then booked into the casinos 5 star hotel, also at the cost of the casino and taken home with her own private Limousine. Even after the celebrations of the night, she could still not believe her luck the next morning, and it all felt like a very cosy dream!

The casino arranged everything on her behalf and when she got a phone call from her Bank Manager, did the reality slowly set in. How could all of this happen to her? Ms X has her own superstitions and really felt that she was different. She is left-handed, had been struck by lightning before, artistic in the arts, and now to seal it all, the winner of the jackpot at one of our own South African casinos! What are the odds? When you meet this vibrant lady, you can understand that she has a very special aura and wit about her that does set her ahead of the normal pack!

Ms X planned on spending her winnings very wisely. She took some time out to regroup her thoughts, as she felt overwhelmed with all this money that became hers by just having fun! One thing that Ms X can do very well is to stay level-headed in a situation where many can lose themselves. Needless to say that she took a well deserved cruise holiday and had financial advisors guide her in her planning. Everyone she spoke to in the financial field told her to invest the bulk of her money in property, as that pays the highest returns and is not so easy to unlock the cash. That she felt, was what she wanted to do so that her winnings can pay her additional revenue and secure her investment.

She could now give her full attention to her calling to paint and become an artist to be reckoned with. She spends time learning and experiencing from one of the world’s greatest artist, Mr Z. In the process, she had lots of time and also invested in a business that would give her the time to do the things she so much loved, taking care of ladies in the beauty field! After all, she is a lady who can hold a candle with the worlds most famous and “Elite”!

Her son was born and this was a wonderful time in her life. What more can one asks for when you literally have the world at your feet. She never took any of her blessings for granted. Providing for her son and expressing her talent was high on her list of priorities. There had been some trying times too, but she never lost herself in the process. Ms X is so down to earth and could pass as just a lady but also someone to be reckoned with. With her fame and glory, she never lost sight of her goals and never passed an opportunity to give back to her community.

After 10 years, she is still in control of her destiny and advises others to be true to whom they are and not to let “money” change and control who you really are! She still enjoy nights out at casinos. She is truly a role model as she is very responsible in her gambling approaches and ensures that we all have luck, as long as one does not get lost and neglect the important things in life, like family, children and surrounded by real friends. Needless to say that due to wise financial advisers, she remained a millionaire in her property assets. What an inspiration to us all!

Daredevils Victorious

May 1, 2009

With eight balls left to be delivered, the Delhi Daredevils took the match over their opponents Deccan Chargers in Thursday’s DLS Indian Premier League match and shattered any hopes that the Chargers had of securing a 5th consecutive win. This was a most satisfying victory for the team who had lost to Rajasthan Royals night earlier.

This win has ushered the Daredevils into 2nd Place in the league table with 8 points. A lot of the credit is due to Tillekeratne Dilshan who scored an unbeaten 52 (46 balls, four 4s, three 6s). The Daredevils, who had a 149-run target, surpassed this goal, with the help of Dilshan, Dinesh Karthik, who scored 41, and man of the match, Dirk Nannes, who prised out Adam Gilchrist and Herschelle Gibbs. Bowlers, Y Venugopala Rao and paceman Fidel Edwards, conceded 35 runs in overs number 17 and 19.

In the final over of the match, Edwards delivered a bouncer that struck Dilshan on the helmet. Undeterred, the skilled batsman hooked the pacebowler out of the park to complete his haf-century and bring his team to victory.

This was a well-played match by all standards. Watch the highlights of the match below.
